Toronto has the better-graded lineup and the home-favorite price, but its bats managed only two runs in each game of Wednesday’s doubleheader. Cincinnati arrives with three hitters who homered in Thursday’s comeback, and Nick Lodolo gets the ball against José Soriano. The Jays have a plausible path to more hits; turning them into runs against the better-graded Reds pitching staff is the harder part of the case.
Why the lineup edge isn’t the whole story
The Blue Jays lost both games in Baltimore 4-2 on Wednesday and have dropped seven of their last 10 games. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. bats between Alejandro Kirk and George Springer against Lodolo, giving Toronto a chance to build an inning through the middle of its order. Our lineup grades favor the Jays, C+ to C, and our team projections put them near nine hits to Cincinnati’s eight. We also project fewer batting strikeouts for Toronto. That combination offers a route to traffic on the bases, even if the recent results make the payoff uncertain.
The Reds have their own answer. Elly De La Cruz, Carlos Jorge and Héctor Rodríguez each homered in Thursday’s 7-6 comeback against Atlanta, and all three are in the order against Soriano. Cincinnati has gone 4-6 over its last 10, so one explosive game doesn’t erase its uneven stretch. But its C+ pitching grade, compared with Toronto’s C, gives the Reds another way to keep the Jays’ lineup advantage from deciding the game.

What the moneyline asks of Toronto
Toronto’s current DraftKings moneyline is -157. At that price, the interesting part of the matchup is the gap between a lineup that looks a little stronger in our grades and a team that has struggled to score lately. If Kirk, Guerrero and Springer turn that projected contact into a productive inning or two, the favorite’s case looks more convincing. If Lodolo keeps them quiet, Cincinnati’s power and pitching edge give the underdog a credible path.
The 7.5-run total reflects a similar tension. Toronto’s two-run games show how quickly its offense can stall, while Thursday’s Reds homers show the danger of treating this as a game only the Jays can open up. The stronger read comes from how those lineups fare against Lodolo and Soriano, not from assuming either previous result will repeat.
Toronto’s advantage in the lineup grades and projected hits is real but modest; Cincinnati’s pitching grade and the power already present in its order push back. The key is whether the Jays can make their opportunities count against Lodolo. That’s what separates a justified favorite’s price from a much tighter game.
