The Dodgers are one win from advancing, and the Braves need more from their bats to keep the series alive. Los Angeles leads this NL Division Series 2-1 after Tuesday’s 3-1 win, setting up a Game 4 matchup between Tyler Glasnow and Tyler Mahle. Our grades favor the Dodgers in both lineup and pitching strength, but Mahle’s last postseason outing gives Atlanta a real foundation for pushing this series to a fifth game.
Mahle gives Atlanta a starting point
Mahle allowed one run over seven innings against Philadelphia in the Wild Card Series. That’s a useful recent example of him keeping a postseason opponent in check. Atlanta needs another effective outing against a Dodgers lineup that earns an A+ in our event-specific grades, compared with the Braves’ A-.
Los Angeles got all its scoring Tuesday from two swings: Kiké Hernández’s two-run homer and Freddie Freeman’s solo shot. Yoshinobu Yamamoto struck out 10 over seven innings. Those results don’t tell us what Glasnow will do, but they show the challenge Atlanta faces: containing the Dodgers only goes so far unless the Braves turn their own opportunities into runs.
With Glasnow starting, our Dodgers Pitching grade is A; Atlanta’s is B- with Mahle. These team evaluations make pitching the clearest separation in our grades for this matchup. Mahle’s strong Wild Card performance is the meaningful counterweight to that assessment.
More opportunities, not necessarily a runaway
Our projections give Los Angeles about eight hits and four walks, compared with roughly seven hits and three walks for Atlanta. That points toward more opportunities for the Dodgers to put runners aboard, though the difference in hits is modest. For the Braves, limiting free passes would help keep those opportunities manageable.
Atlanta has scored seven runs across the first three games of this series. The broader recent picture also favors Los Angeles: the Dodgers are 7-3 over their last 10 games, while the Braves are 4-6. Still, Atlanta’s 3-2 win in Game 2 is a reminder that a close, low-scoring game offers a workable route to another win.
One personnel concern is Miguel Rojas, who is day-to-day with a back injury. He left Tuesday’s game with lower back pain, and Tommy Edman replaced him. Rojas’ availability is worth monitoring, though that substitution doesn’t establish how the Dodgers will use him in Game 4.

What the moneyline asks of bettors
DraftKings’ current moneyline has Los Angeles favored at -148, with Atlanta at +123. The Dodgers’ stronger grades and recent results fit their favorite status, but backing them also means accepting a price that already expects them to win. Atlanta’s case rests on Mahle keeping the game close and its lineup producing more than it has so far in the series.
The total is 7.5 runs. All three games in this series have finished below their respective totals, providing some recent scoring context, but today’s pitching matchup is different. Atlanta’s ability to generate offense against Glasnow will determine how much support Mahle gets.
Los Angeles brings the stronger lineup and pitching grades, better recent results and more projected opportunities to reach base. Mahle’s latest postseason performance gives Atlanta a credible way to narrow that gap, but a strong outing alone won’t solve the Braves’ scoring problem. Their ability to turn baserunners into runs is the factor that matters most to their route to Game 5.
