Georgia and Alabama arrive unbeaten, but the most interesting difference is how they might move the ball against each other. Our projections give Georgia the stronger rushing outlook and Alabama more production through the air—a useful contrast in a matchup where we rate both defenses A+. With the Crimson Tide favored by just 1.5 points at DraftKings, which offense can sustain its preferred approach matters more than last week’s comfortable winning margins.
Georgia’s ground game meets Alabama’s passing threat
Our rushing-yard projections put Georgia at roughly 150 yards compared with 80 for Alabama. The passing comparison goes the other way: about 230 yards for the Tide and 190 for the Bulldogs. That gives Georgia a plausible route through its ground game, while Alabama’s outlook puts more emphasis on throwing the ball.
Those differences are especially interesting after Alabama’s latest performance. In its win at Mississippi State last Saturday, the Tide rushed for 179 yards while Keelon Russell threw for 285 yards and three touchdowns, adding another score on the ground. He also avoided turnovers. Alabama showed it could produce both ways; our projections suggest the rushing portion will be harder to repeat against Georgia.
Russell’s passing gives Alabama a meaningful counterweight. Against Mississippi State, he completed passes of 50 and 22 yards during an 88-yard touchdown drive. That wasn’t just an offense benefiting from favorable field position—it also showed an ability to build a long scoring drive.
Last week’s scores need a little context
Georgia beat Vanderbilt 38-14 last Saturday, but it wasn’t comfortable from start to finish. The Bulldogs led only 21-14 at halftime before holding Vanderbilt scoreless after the break. Gunner Stockton finished with 295 passing yards and three touchdowns, and Georgia opened the third quarter with an 11-play, 75-yard touchdown drive that took 6:39. That sustained possession is a useful example of Georgia’s ability to move the ball without needing a quick strike.
Alabama’s 56-23 win had a different shape. Mississippi State’s first two turnovers helped put the Tide ahead 14-0, including an interception returned for a touchdown. Russell’s clean performance was encouraging, but those early mistakes also helped create the separation. The final score alone isn’t a good template for facing Georgia.

What matters against a narrow spread
We give Georgia a slight edge on offense—A+ to Alabama’s A—and rate both defenses A+. That makes the Bulldogs’ projected rushing edge worth watching, but Alabama’s larger passing projection and Russell’s latest performance keep the matchup from becoming a one-sided ground-game story.
Georgia’s clearest route to sustained offense is its projected rushing advantage. Alabama has a credible answer through the air, especially after Russell showed he could help build a long touchdown drive as well as capitalize on early opportunities. The decisive test is whether Georgia can turn that ground production into sustained drives against a defense we rate highly—and whether Alabama’s passing game can carry more of the load if its rushing output falls back. Against a spread this small, those competing paths tell us more than comparing two blowout scores.
