San Antonio’s offense came alive with 130 points Tuesday, just as Utah faces a much less certain scoring picture. Jaren Jackson Jr. is out with a knee injury, and Lauri Markkanen is questionable with a wrist injury after both left the Jazz’s last game early. The Spurs are 13.5-point favorites, making this more than a question of which team looks stronger: can San Antonio carry its offensive surge into a second straight night and create that much separation?
San Antonio brings more than one good shooting night
The Spurs beat Sacramento 130-103 on Tuesday after winning 122-106 at Dallas on Saturday. Those consecutive wins followed two losses to open the season, bringing San Antonio to 2-2. Both wins also covered sizable spreads, though the task now moves to a road game the night after the Sacramento victory.
Victor Wembanyama scored 29 points and grabbed 10 rebounds against the Kings. Julian Champagnie added 26 points, with eight made three-pointers, and Dylan Harper contributed 13 points, six rebounds and six assists. The Spurs made 17 of 37 from three-point range and had 80 points by halftime. That gave them a commanding start rather than leaving the game to a late scoring burst.
Our projections have San Antonio recording about 32 assists to Utah’s 27. That offers a favorable outlook for the Spurs’ assisted scoring, alongside the contributions they got from several players Tuesday. San Antonio gets a quick turnaround here, moving from Tuesday’s home win to Wednesday’s visit to Utah.
Utah’s comeback gives the underdog a case
The Jazz fell 110-105 to Memphis on Monday, but they made the Grizzlies work for it after trailing by 16 late in the third quarter. Keyonte George scored 26 points, while Ace Bailey had 17 points and 10 rebounds. Utah got within one twice late in the game.
That response matters because Utah played most of the game without Jackson and Markkanen, who were injured early. Jackson is now out, while Markkanen’s status remains unresolved for this matchup. George and Bailey supplied real production during that difficult night; they give the Jazz a concrete source of encouragement even with their 1-3 record.
Utah has failed to cover in all four games this season, including its one-point win over New Orleans. Still, Monday’s rally is a useful counterweight to assuming a large deficit automatically stays large. For San Antonio to justify a double-digit spread, it needs sustained separation against a team that just showed it could fight back with important scorers missing.

The 233.5 total depends on both offenses
San Antonio’s 17 made threes against Sacramento show how quickly its scoring can climb. The Spurs also scored 122 in their previous win, so the offensive improvement isn’t confined to Tuesday. Utah, meanwhile, scored 120 and 123 in the two games before losing Jackson and Markkanen early against Memphis.
At a total of 233.5, that change in Utah’s available scoring is central. Markkanen’s availability could materially change how much of the Jazz’s earlier production belongs in the comparison. San Antonio’s recent offense supplies a strong scoring case, but Utah’s ability to contribute alongside it is less settled. The Spurs have gone Under in three of four games this season, while the Jazz have split two Overs and two Unders at their respective historical totals; neither short sample answers the personnel question tonight.
Where the matchup stands
San Antonio has the stronger recent performances and an encouraging assisted-scoring outlook. Utah’s depleted scoring picture strengthens that case, especially if Markkanen can’t play. The counterweight is the size of the spread and the Jazz’s demonstrated ability to rally behind George and Bailey. Watch whether the Spurs sustain their early offensive pressure and whether Utah can keep enough scoring on the floor to prevent another deficit from becoming decisive.
