Dallas has turned three straight wins into three straight covers, while Sacramento is still looking for its first victory. Monday brings a different test for the Mavericks: a double-digit favorite’s burden against a Kings team getting big scoring nights from Darius Acuff Jr. without enough stops to make them count. Kyrie Irving’s questionable status adds a significant wrinkle after he drove Dallas’ latest comeback.
Dallas trades the underdog role for a big spread
The Mavericks’ last three games brought wins over Miami, 113–109; Oklahoma City, 120–96; and Houston, 116–111. They covered each time, taking their record to 4–2 both outright and against the spread. All three wins came as underdogs.
Now the DraftKings spread makes Dallas a 10.5-point favorite. That changes what a successful betting performance requires: the recent run includes two tight finishes alongside the comfortable win over Oklahoma City.
Friday’s comeback against Houston showed how much Irving can matter. He put up 35 points, 26 of them after halftime. Cooper Flagg contributed 33 and Daniel Gafford scored 18. Irving and Flagg combined to make 25 of their 38 field-goal attempts.
Flagg also delivered key baskets after Houston missed late free throws. Dallas earned the win, but the closing sequence offers a useful reminder that a five-point result can turn on a handful of possessions.
The injury report on Irving lists him as questionable for Monday because of his knee. Sacramento’s Zach LaVine is also questionable with an elbow issue. Those are material scoring questions on both sides, especially after Irving supplied so much of Dallas’ second-half offense Friday. Dereck Lively II is out for Dallas with a foot injury.
Acuff’s scoring needs more help from the Kings’ defense
Acuff followed a 34-point game against New Orleans on Thursday with 38 in Saturday’s 136–105 loss at Memphis. De’Andre Hunter contributed 19 against the Grizzlies, and Domantas Sabonis finished with 11 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists.
The scoring talent has given Sacramento individual bright spots. The team results tell a tougher story: the Kings are 0–6, have covered once and have allowed at least 121 points in every game.
Memphis led by 11 at halftime Saturday, then outscored Sacramento 42–25 in the third quarter. That’s the clearest problem for the Kings to solve here. Another strong Acuff performance would help, but Sacramento also needs to avoid the extended defensive breakdown that turned its latest game into a rout.

Our rebounding projections give Dallas about 45 boards to Sacramento’s 42. Sabonis’ latest 14-board effort gives the Kings a concrete strength to bring to that contest. Keeping Dallas from combining its scoring threats with an advantage on the glass would make Sacramento’s job more manageable.
Two different scoring patterns meet
Sacramento’s last five games have gone Over their totals. Dallas has gone Under in four of six this season, including the wins over Miami and Oklahoma City. Those patterns reflect very different recent games: the Kings have kept conceding big scores, while Dallas held its last three opponents to 109, 96 and 111 points.
At a total of 232.5, Sacramento’s defensive problems create room for Dallas’ offense, but the Mavericks’ recent work at the other end supplies a meaningful counterweight. Irving’s and LaVine’s availability could also change how much scoring each team can bring. The total deserves more thought than simply following the Kings’ Over streak.
Sacramento needs stops that let Acuff’s scoring and Sabonis’ rebounding keep the game within reach. Another third-quarter collapse would leave those individual efforts fighting against too large a deficit. Dallas has shown it can close out wins and has conceded fewer points during this three-game run, but consistently building a larger cushion is a different task—especially with Irving questionable after Friday’s second-half surge.
