Texas A&M vs. South Carolina Preview: Can the Aggies Keep Sellers in Front of Them?

LaNorris Sellers threw two touchdown passes of at least 79 yards at Oklahoma. Texas A&M lost its fourth-quarter lead at Alabama after handing the Tide a short field. To keep Saturday’s game close, the Aggies have to make Sellers work for his yards and give him as few extra chances as possible.

A&M has to defend Sellers without giving up the deep ball

Sellers threw for 301 yards and ran for 96 in South Carolina’s 42–25 win at Oklahoma. His long touchdowns went to DJ Black and Mazeo Bennett Jr., and the Gamecocks also put together two 75-yard scoring drives after Oklahoma tied the game on an interception return. If the Aggies keep defenders deep, watch whether they can still keep Sellers from finding room to run when the play breaks down.

DraftKings had South Carolina favored by seven in its Wednesday snapshot. Marcel Reed threw two early interceptions at Alabama, yet the Aggies led 20–17 going into the fourth before his fourth-down fumble gave the Tide the ball at midfield. Reed threw for a touchdown and ran for another in that game. If A&M gets that production without giving Sellers extra possessions or short fields, it has a better chance to keep the margin under seven.

Can the Aggies take away South Carolina’s quick scores?

DraftKings priced the over at −102 and the under at −118 in the same snapshot. Six of South Carolina’s eight games have gone over their own totals, while five of A&M’s eight have gone under. The Aggies’ 31–20 loss and South Carolina’s 27–24 win over Tennessee both went over their original lines, yet each stayed below Saturday’s 51.5.

Watch how A&M handles Sellers on early downs. If the Aggies limit his runs and take away the deep throws, South Carolina will have to string together more plays to score. If the Gamecocks hit another quick touchdown and Reed answers without turnovers, both offenses can put pressure on 51.5.
