Jordan Love threw three touchdown passes in Green Bay’s latest win. Drake Maye answered a halftime deficit with two scoring throws and a touchdown run in New England’s. Both teams arrive at 5–3, but their recent games have taken different shapes: the Packers have kept opponents in check, while the Patriots have found enough big plays to keep scoring. Whether Maye can disrupt Green Bay’s defensive run is the most interesting question in Foxborough.
A small spread puts the quarterbacks’ supporting casts in focus
The DraftKings spread lists New England as a three-point favorite. Green Bay’s last five games include four wins and no opponent scoring more than 20 points. That gives Love a useful foundation: the Packers haven’t needed a shootout to remain competitive. New England has also won four of its last five, so this is a meeting of two teams with recent results to support their records.
Green Bay’s 27–19 victory over Carolina showed both the strength and the vulnerability of that approach. Love finished 30 of 41 for 288 yards, according to the AP, spreading touchdown passes among Tucker Kraft, Matthew Golden and Josh Jacobs. Jacobs scored twice, but his rushing production was just 39 yards on 21 carries. Green Bay found its touchdowns without finding much room on the ground.
The Packers also committed three turnovers. An interception in the end zone helped Carolina stay alive in the fourth quarter. Against a New England offense capable of scoring quickly, wasting a possession near the goal line could be more expensive. Love’s passing gives Green Bay a way to answer points; cleaner possessions would make that job easier.
Maye found big plays with a depleted group
New England’s 24–19 win in Miami came after it trailed by 10 at halftime. Maye completed 16 of 20 passes for 199 yards, as the AP reported. His touchdown passes covered 43 yards to Kyle Williams and 48 to DeMario Douglas, and he added the go-ahead score on a two-yard run. A modest passing-yard total still produced decisive plays.
That is the challenge for Green Bay: a defense can keep most possessions manageable and still lose its grip on a game through a handful of long gains. New England doesn’t need Maye to match Love’s passing volume if those openings appear again.
The Thursday practice reports leave questions around both supporting casts. ESPN’s Rob Demovsky reported that A.J. Brown did not participate with ankle and knee issues, TreVeyon Henderson did not participate because of illness, and Green Bay’s Christian Watson was limited with a rib injury. Evan Lazar of the Patriots’ official site reported that Hunter Henry, dealing with a foot issue, wasn’t spotted at practice. These updates don’t settle Sunday availability, but they matter to the options each quarterback will have.
Our team rushing projections put New England at about 128 yards compared with 95 for Green Bay. That is a team estimate rather than a workload forecast for an individual back. Rhamondre Stevenson leads the Patriots' running-back depth chart and ran for 82 yards in Miami. Reliable gains on the ground would help Maye keep drives moving between the big passing plays.

The total makes the streaks more complicated
The total is 45.5. Green Bay’s last five games have all gone Under their stored totals, while New England’s last five have all gone Over. The latest results show why the threshold matters: the Packers and Panthers combined for 46 points against a total of 47.5, while the Patriots and Dolphins combined for 43 against 41.5. Neither label describes how that scoring would compare with this game’s 45.5.
The matchup offers reasons for both restraint and scoring bursts. Green Bay’s recent defensive results support a game in which New England must earn its drives. Maye’s long touchdown passes and Love’s ability to spread scoring chances among several targets provide the counterweight. The practice reports matter here because available playmakers could change how readily either offense creates those larger gains.
Green Bay’s route to keeping this close is to make Maye sustain drives while giving Love cleaner possessions than he had against Carolina. New England’s route is to find the larger gains that can break that defensive pattern, with the running game helping it stay patient. In a three-point spread, a wasted scoring chance or one missed tackle on a long completion could matter more than either five-game total streak.
