Georgia just won at Alabama with a productive ground game. Auburn’s last outing ended with Tennessee’s lead back running for 220 yards. That makes the Tigers’ run defense the first place to look against the unbeaten, No. 1 Bulldogs. DraftKings has Georgia as a 20.5-point favorite, and Auburn needs more than a few defensive stops to keep this rivalry competitive—it also needs quarterback Byrum Brown’s big plays to come with fewer costly mistakes.
Georgia has a clear place to start
The Bulldogs beat Alabama 20-17 on Saturday, rushing for 206 yards behind Dwight Phillips Jr.’s 120 and Bo Walker’s 69. Gunner Stockton gave them balance, completing 18 of 22 passes for 249 yards. That combination matters here: Auburn can’t devote all its attention to the ground game without accounting for a passing attack that was efficient against Alabama.
Auburn’s most recent game offers a specific concern. Tennessee’s DeSean Bishop carried 34 times for 220 yards and three touchdowns in the Tigers’ 24-14 loss on October 3. Auburn has had an open week since then, but that performance leaves a clear question for its return: can it keep Georgia from repeatedly finding room on the ground?
Our rushing projections put Georgia at roughly 180 yards and Auburn at about 150. There’s useful rushing production in that outlook for both teams, with Georgia holding the advantage—not a forecast of another individual performance like Bishop’s. The spread asks the Bulldogs to turn that production into comfortable separation, not simply win the rushing matchup.
Brown gives Auburn a way to answer
Brown supplied both Auburn touchdowns against Tennessee, throwing for 159 yards and running for another 107. His mobility gives the Tigers another way to move the ball when the passing game stalls. But he also threw two interceptions and fumbled once, while Auburn committed 11 penalties for 94 yards. Cutting those mistakes is a more immediate route to staying competitive than asking him to produce everything himself.
Georgia has its own ball-security concern to clean up: it recovered all five of its fumbles against Alabama. The Bulldogs found a way through that game, but those loose balls are a meaningful counterweight when assessing such a large favorite.
The teams’ 2026 results against the spread favor Georgia’s case: the Bulldogs have covered in five of six games, producing a historical profit of 3.65 units on flat one-unit spread bets. Auburn has covered once in five games. Those results show how differently these teams have performed against expectations; this week’s large spread is still a separate test.

A total pulled in two directions
The 49.5-point total brings together sharply different patterns in their 2026 games. Five of Georgia’s six games have gone over their totals, while four of Auburn’s five have stayed under. Georgia scored at least 38 points in each of those first five games, but its defense also allowed no more than 20 in any of the six.
That makes Auburn’s contribution especially important to the scoring outlook. Brown’s rushing production offers a route to sustaining drives, while his recent interceptions and Auburn’s penalties show how those possessions can unravel. Georgia’s ground game gives the Bulldogs a credible scoring foundation, but their 20-point outing at Alabama is a useful reminder that productive yardage doesn’t always produce a high-scoring game. At 49.5, the tension is between Georgia’s scoring capacity and a defense that has consistently limited opponents—not just the teams’ opposing over/under records.
What matters most
Georgia’s strongest case is its ability to threaten Auburn both on the ground and through Stockton’s passing. Brown’s mobility gives Auburn a genuine response, and Georgia’s five recovered fumbles show why its latest win wasn’t as tidy as the result might suggest. The key for the spread is whether Auburn can interrupt Georgia’s rushing success while avoiding the mistakes that cut its own drives short. For the total, Brown turning those drives into points against a defense that has allowed no more than 20 in its six 2026 games matters more than simply following either team’s over/under record.
