Bengals vs. Ravens Preview: Burrow’s Passing Game Meets Baltimore’s Ground Attack

Cincinnati brings the stronger passing-yardage outlook to Baltimore, but the Ravens have a substantial advantage on the ground in our projections. That makes this more interesting than a simple Joe Burrow–Lamar Jackson showdown: can the Bengals turn their passing volume into enough of an advantage against a Baltimore team we rate more highly overall? Jackson’s limited practice participation adds a meaningful uncertainty with Cincinnati a narrow road favorite.

Different routes to similar yardage

Our team projections put Cincinnati at roughly 255 passing yards and 100 rushing yards, compared with about 190 through the air and 175 on the ground for Baltimore. The overall yardage outlook is close—about 355 yards for the Bengals and 365 for the Ravens—but the routes there look very different.

We project Cincinnati to throw about 39 times, versus 25 for Baltimore. With Burrow leading the Bengals and Derrick Henry atop Baltimore’s backfield, that contrast gives the matchup a clear shape: Cincinnati’s passing game carries more of its expected production, while Baltimore has a much larger rushing contribution.

Our grades also give Baltimore a credible case despite its underdog status. We rate the Ravens’ offense A+ and Cincinnati’s A, with Baltimore holding a smaller defensive advantage, B- to C+. Those evaluations favor Baltimore overall, but the Bengals’ passing outlook explains why this isn’t a matchup to judge on one overall grade alone.

Jackson’s practice report matters more than last week’s score

Jackson was limited in Wednesday’s practice with an ankle injury, and receiver Rashod Bateman was limited with a shoulder injury, according to NBC Sports. Neither practice report establishes a game designation for Sunday. Jackson’s next update matters particularly because our evaluation of Baltimore’s offense includes him at quarterback.

The Ravens lost 13-10 at Cleveland last Sunday with Tyler Huntley at quarterback. They scored on their first two possessions, then went scoreless over their final nine; Henry finished with 58 rushing yards and lost a late fumble. It was a rough offensive finish, but it came with a different quarterback than the one our current matchup evaluation includes.

Cincinnati’s last outing offers a different caution about reading too much into a final score. Burrow threw four touchdown passes in a 31-24 win at Miami on Oct. 11, but finished with 190 passing yards. Jordan Battle’s two interceptions and an 81-yard opening kickoff return helped create scoring opportunities. The Bengals were productive without needing a huge passing-yardage total.

What that means for the spread and total

The current DraftKings spread makes Cincinnati a 1.5-point favorite. Baltimore’s stronger grades and rushing outlook are the main counterweight to that line, while Cincinnati’s passing projection supplies a clear path to success. The Ravens’ 4-2 record also deserves some separation from their betting results: in their six games this season, they’ve covered twice, missed three times and pushed once.

The posted total of 48.5 has support from two highly rated offenses. Recent betting results offer some scoring context, too: three of Cincinnati’s five games this season and four of Baltimore’s six have gone Over their respective totals. Those results came against different thresholds and opponents, but they keep Baltimore’s low-scoring Cleveland loss from defining the whole scoring discussion.

The previous games also show why yardage alone won’t settle the outlook at 48.5. Cincinnati benefited from turnovers and a long return in Miami; Baltimore’s offense stalled for most of its Cleveland loss with Huntley. The question is whether Cincinnati can sustain scoring through its larger passing workload and Baltimore can turn its projected rushing production into productive drives. Jackson’s practice progression is especially relevant to confidence in Baltimore’s contribution.

Cincinnati’s passing advantage is substantial, but it doesn’t amount to a broad edge across the matchup. Baltimore counters with the stronger rushing projection and overall evaluation, while its uneven record against the spread tempers the case for leaning on those grades alone. The most important update is Jackson’s practice progression: his role is central to the Baltimore offense being evaluated here, so that update should come before drawing a firm conclusion from the narrow spread or the scoring outlook.
