Anaheim finally broke through on Saturday. Vancouver is still waiting. The Ducks enter this matchup after snapping a five-game losing streak, while the Canucks have dropped 10 straight. That makes Anaheim an understandable favorite, but the more useful question is whether its five-goal rebound signals a stronger attack—or just one good afternoon against a backdrop of uneven scoring.
A breakthrough, not yet a turnaround
Anaheim rallied from two goals down to beat Philadelphia 5-4 on Saturday. Leo Carlsson scored and assisted on Beckett Sennecke’s third-period game-winner. Carlsson finished that game with a team-leading 13 points, giving the Ducks a productive centerpiece to build around.
The contrast with the preceding stretch is sharp: Anaheim scored just nine goals across its five consecutive losses. The Ducks are 4-6 over their last 10 games, so Saturday’s comeback is an encouraging response rather than evidence that their scoring problems have disappeared.
Vancouver’s difficulties have been more persistent. The Canucks have scored two goals or fewer in nine of their last 10 games. They fell behind Minnesota 4-0 before Brock Boeser and Max Sasson scored in Sunday’s 4-2 loss. Even when Vancouver has kept the opposing attack within reach, its own scoring has left little room for error.
The favorite has a clearer shooting outlook
Anaheim is a substantial favorite at -205 on DraftKings’ moneyline. Our shot projections point toward more shooting volume for the Ducks: roughly 31 shots compared with 25 for the Canucks. That gives Anaheim more expected attempts on net, though it doesn’t tell us how dangerous those attempts will be.
Our grades also favor Anaheim’s attack, which earns a B compared with Vancouver’s D-. The other end is less reassuring: we grade the Ducks’ team defense C-. Vancouver’s route into this game is therefore less about matching Anaheim shot for shot and more about getting better production from the chances it does generate.
The price matters, too. Our historical betting data shows that backing Vancouver’s opponents outright in all 13 games this season produced 11 wins and a profit of 2.29 units with flat one-unit bets. Frequent wins haven’t translated into equally large returns, a useful distinction when considering a substantial favorite.

Why the 6.5-goal total has competing signals
Vancouver’s limited scoring is the clearest restraint on the posted total of 6.5. Anaheim’s games have also gone Under their respective sportsbook totals in seven of 11 games this season. Those historical thresholds varied, but the results provide a useful counterweight to Saturday’s nine-goal game.
The recent goaltending numbers pull the other way. Kevin Lankinen has an .804 save percentage across his last five Vancouver appearances, including one relief outing. Lukas Dostal has an .885 save percentage across his last five Anaheim appearances. If they’re in net, those stretches offer little reassurance about keeping scoring down.
That leaves a genuine tension at 6.5: Anaheim has the stronger shooting outlook against a Vancouver team struggling to prevent goals, but the Canucks’ own attack has repeatedly failed to contribute much. The Ducks’ offensive rebound matters to the total; whether Vancouver can move beyond the two-goal ceiling that has defined most of its recent games matters just as much.
The takeaway
Anaheim’s stronger attack and expected shot advantage give its rebound more substance than the final score alone. But nine goals across the preceding five losses and a C- defensive grade leave reasons to be careful with the -205 price. Vancouver’s scoring is the hinge between the moneyline and total discussions: another low-output night would leave the Canucks heavily dependent on containing Anaheim, while improved finishing could test a Ducks defense that hasn’t earned the same confidence as its attack.
