Chargers vs. Bills Preview: Can Los Angeles Disrupt Buffalo’s Fast Start?

Buffalo has opened 2-0 behind an offense that can score in bunches, while Los Angeles arrives at 0-2 after consecutive 26-14 losses. The question for bettors is whether the Chargers can play cleanly enough to make a seven-point spread uncomfortable against a Bills team that has quickly found its rhythm.

Buffalo’s early production sets the standard

In a 41-31 win over Detroit, Buffalo scored on each of its first four possessions. Josh Allen accounted for five touchdowns, and James Cook ran for 134 yards. Allen’s dual-threat ability and Cook’s production give Los Angeles more than one problem to solve if Buffalo stays on schedule.

The Chargers are coming off a much messier afternoon. They fumbled six times in their 26-14 loss to Las Vegas, while Justin Herbert finished with 192 passing yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Omarion Hampton also lost a costly fourth-quarter fumble. Los Angeles doesn’t have to match Buffalo highlight for highlight, but another turnover-heavy performance would make an already difficult road assignment much tougher.

Injuries put more pressure on the trenches

The current injury report lists Chargers tackle Trey Pipkins III and guard Kayode Awosika as out, along with defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson and cornerback Elijah Molden. Buffalo defensive tackle T.J. Sanders is out, while Ed Oliver is questionable with a hip injury. Those absences put added pressure on Los Angeles’ protection and leave Buffalo’s defensive-front depth worth watching.

The spread leaves room for debate

Buffalo is a seven-point favorite in the latest market. Our yardage projections give the Bills roughly 375 total yards and 153 on the ground, compared with about 330 total yards and 128 rushing yards for the Chargers. That outlook favors Buffalo’s ability to sustain drives, particularly if Cook and Allen keep the offense ahead of the chains.

Still, the one-star spread rating reflects limited conviction around a full-touchdown line. The records create a clear first impression, but seven points leave less room for error than the teams’ starts might suggest.

The scoring evidence also pulls in opposite directions. Buffalo has gone over in seven of its last 10 games, while eight of the Chargers’ last 10 have finished under. Those results span two seasons, but they capture the contrast between Buffalo’s recent scoring profile and Los Angeles’ run of lower-scoring games. The current total is 50.5.

Final assessment

Buffalo’s case starts with 77 points through two games, a favorable yardage outlook and a Chargers offense coming off a game filled with possession-killing mistakes. The full-touchdown spread is the counterweight, especially with limited rating strength and questions along Buffalo’s defensive line. The factor that matters most is whether Los Angeles protects the ball and prevents Allen from controlling the game through repeated productive possessions.
