The Dodgers created plenty of trouble in the NLCS opener, but Milwaukee kept finding a way out. Los Angeles stranded nine runners and grounded into three double plays as the Brewers won 2-1 on Sunday. That makes the central question for Game 2 less about whether the Dodgers can threaten and more about whether they can turn that pressure into runs against Logan Henderson.
Henderson gives Milwaukee more than momentum
Henderson has already shown he can handle this lineup. He went 2-0 with a 0.75 ERA in two starts against Los Angeles this season. That’s a small sample, but it’s a meaningful counterweight to the Dodgers’ status as the road favorite.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto gives Los Angeles a strong answer. He’s 8-1 with a 2.14 ERA across 11 postseason appearances, including a three-hitter in a 5-1 win at Milwaukee in Game 2 of last year’s NLCS. His October record is the broader body of work here; Henderson’s success against Los Angeles is the more direct matchup evidence.
The pitcher outs markets also put different workload thresholds in focus: Yamamoto’s line is 17.5, compared with Henderson’s 15.5. Henderson’s ability to extend his outing is worth watching after Milwaukee used four relievers in the opener, though those thresholds aren’t a statement of either team’s pitching plan. That relief group allowed only two hits, with Aaron Ashby covering two innings.
A favorite facing a credible challenger
DraftKings’ moneyline prices make Los Angeles a -142 favorite and Milwaukee a +118 underdog. Our analysis rates the Dodgers’ lineup A+ and their pitching A, ahead of Milwaukee’s A- grades in both areas. That supports taking Los Angeles’ strengths seriously, even after a frustrating opener, without overlooking how well the Brewers have played.
Milwaukee has won nine of its last 10 games, a stretch spanning the regular season and playoffs, including four wins in its five postseason games. The longer betting record is impressive, too: the Brewers have won 107 of 167 games this season, including the playoffs, producing a historical profit of 17.17 units from flat one-unit moneyline bets. They’ve rewarded backers across many different prices; today’s underdog price still needs its own assessment.

What matters at a total of seven
The posted total is seven runs, and recent postseason results give that number useful context. All five Dodgers playoff games finished under their respective totals. Milwaukee’s five playoff games produced four unders and one push. Sunday’s tight opener fits that pattern, although it appears in both teams’ records.
Our team projections give Los Angeles about 12 total bases and Milwaukee about 10, with slightly more home-run production for the Dodgers. That offers a possible route to more scoring than Sunday’s result, especially if Los Angeles can get an extra-base hit with runners aboard. The counterweight is substantial: Henderson’s success against Los Angeles, Yamamoto’s postseason record and Milwaukee’s effective relief work all point to difficult at-bats. At seven, the useful tension is between that pitching evidence and a Dodgers lineup that created opportunities even while scoring only once.
The Game 2 assessment
Los Angeles has the stronger grades and the more extensive postseason pitching résumé, but Henderson’s success in this matchup makes Milwaukee a credible challenger. Game 1 showed why creating traffic alone isn’t enough: double plays erased opportunities, and the Brewers’ relievers kept the damage down. Turning those opportunities into productive innings against Henderson is the clearest way for the Dodgers to change the shape of Game 2. If Milwaukee keeps escaping those spots, the pitching evidence and recent low-scoring results remain the stronger counterweight at a total of seven.
