Atlanta’s ground game gives it a credible foothold in this matchup, but New Orleans has a passing attack that can answer. Our grades favor the Falcons’ offense, while their weaker-rated defense gives Tyler Shough and Chris Olave an opportunity after a productive but turnover-heavy performance last week. With New Orleans a 2.5-point favorite at DraftKings, dependable possessions matter as much as either team’s ability to pile up yards.
Atlanta’s ground game gives it a foothold
Our grades put Atlanta’s offense at B+ against a C for New Orleans’ defense. Bijan Robinson gives the Falcons a natural focal point, and our rushing projections call for about 140 yards for Atlanta compared with about 90 for the Saints. That difference makes the ground game a meaningful part of Atlanta’s case against a short-priced home favorite.
The Falcons still need consistency. Their 35-14 win at Green Bay followed losses to Pittsburgh and Carolina in which they scored just 16 points combined. Michael Penix Jr. and an offense featuring Robinson and Drake London showed a much higher ceiling against the Packers, but Atlanta hasn’t yet put together consecutive strong performances this season.
New Orleans has production—and a finishing problem
The Saints’ passing game offered a bright spot in their 35-27 loss to Las Vegas on September 27. Shough threw for 255 yards and four touchdowns, while Olave caught nine passes for 107 yards. Shough also committed three turnovers, and New Orleans lost an 11-point second-half lead.
Our projections give the Saints about 250 passing yards, compared with about 200 for Atlanta. That’s a useful opportunity against a Falcons defense carrying a D+ grade. New Orleans’ offense grades C+, below Atlanta’s, but Shough and Olave have a favorable matchup through the air. Holding onto the ball is the immediate challenge after last week’s giveaways.

On defense, Saints linebacker Pete Werner is questionable with a neck injury after missing Friday’s practice. He played in the September 27 game before leaving with a neck and shoulder stinger, making his availability a relevant part of the Saints’ defensive picture.
What matters at a short spread
New Orleans is priced below the field-goal threshold, so a stalled drive or turnover could be especially costly. Atlanta’s stronger offensive grade and rushing outlook give it a way to sustain possessions. The counterweight is its weaker defensive grade: productive drives won’t provide much separation if Shough and Olave keep answering through the air.
Atlanta has the more convincing ground-game case, while New Orleans has the clearer passing opportunity. The deciding factor is how reliably each team converts that production into completed drives. The Falcons need to carry their Green Bay performance forward; the Saints need to pair last week’s passing production with cleaner ball security.
