Unbeaten Florida has looked capable of overwhelming opponents on the ground, but winning comfortably at Missouri presents a different test. The Gators have a clear formula after their explosive performance against Ole Miss; the question is whether that formula travels well enough to overcome the Tigers’ passing attack and a matchup our projections see as fairly close.
Florida’s ground game sets the challenge
Florida rushed for 302 yards and six touchdowns in its 52-28 win over Ole Miss. Jadan Baugh supplied 142 yards and three scores, while Duke Clark added 126 yards and a touchdown. The Gators scored touchdowns on five consecutive second-half drives and have now reached 40 points in each of their first four games.
That performance gives Florida a way to control the game without putting everything on its passing attack. Multiple productive backs can keep the offense on schedule, wear down a front and limit the opportunities Missouri’s passing game gets on the other side.
Our total-yardage projection still points to a more balanced matchup than the teams’ latest results might suggest. Florida lands at about 370 total yards, with Missouri near 360. The Gators have the projected passing edge at roughly 212 yards to 183, but the Tigers lead the rushing comparison at about 178 yards to 158.
Missouri has enough passing punch to answer
Missouri produced plenty through the air in its 31-24 loss at Mississippi State. Austin Simmons threw for 295 yards and three touchdowns, and Cayden Lee caught 11 passes for 156 yards and two scores. The Tigers led 24-17 in the second half before Mississippi State rallied.
That combination gives Missouri a credible response if Florida’s rushing attack begins dictating the pace. The concern is finishing: the Tigers went scoreless in the fourth quarter, while Mississippi State ended the game with 499 total yards.

The spread asks Florida to create separation
Florida is a 5.5-point favorite in the latest market. Its fast start supports that position, but the spread leaves little room for a merely competitive road win against a ranked opponent.
Florida is 6-4 against the spread across its last 10 games, while Missouri is 3-7 over the same span. Those samples cross seasons, but they provide useful context for the price: Florida has more consistently exceeded market expectations, while Missouri’s recent record against the number has been much less convincing.
What matters most
Florida’s strongest case is its ability to rotate productive backs against a Missouri team that just allowed 499 yards. Missouri’s passing production is the main counterweight, especially with our overall yardage projection separating the teams by only about 10 yards. The matchup should come down to whether the Gators can reproduce last week’s rushing control on the road without giving Simmons and Lee repeated chances to answer.
