Victor Wembanyama is coming off a 43-point night, and San Antonio has won four straight. Yet Monday’s rematch with Utah carries a bigger demand than simply keeping that streak alive. The Spurs beat the Jazz by six last week; now they’re asked to create a much larger margin against a team trying to recover from its worst shooting game of the season.
A winning streak meets a big spread
The DraftKings spread makes San Antonio a 16.5-point favorite. The Spurs’ recent results tell two different stories: they are 4–2 outright but 2–4 against the spread, and their last two victories both fell short of the number.
They beat Utah 117–111 on Wednesday as 13.5-point favorites, then defeated Minnesota 121–111 on Saturday while favored by 12.5. Those results show why a strong team’s winning streak and its ability to cover a large spread deserve separate attention.
San Antonio has shown it can win comfortably, too: the Spurs beat Sacramento 130–103 during this four-game run. Their task Monday is to produce that kind of separation rather than another finish with the opponent still within reach.
Wembanyama has help, but Utah must make it harder
Wembanyama paired his 43 points with six blocks in Saturday’s win over Minnesota. Dylan Harper contributed 25 points and six assists, and De’Aaron Fox scored 20. That gave the Spurs substantial scoring from three players.
The win still had uneven stretches. Minnesota scored 10 points off five San Antonio turnovers in the second quarter, and the Timberwolves played without injured starters Anthony Edwards and Rudy Gobert. The Spurs’ production was impressive, but that opponent’s circumstances matter when weighing how much carries into this game.
Our analysis grades San Antonio’s offense A– and Utah’s defense D–. That’s a clear strength for the Spurs in this matchup. Utah’s earlier six-point loss nevertheless offers a reminder that the Jazz have already kept this opponent closer than Monday’s spread would allow.
Utah needs possessions that end with shots
The Jazz fell to 1–5 with Saturday’s 112–90 loss to Portland. They turned the ball over 20 times and made a season-low 37.1% of their field-goal attempts. Darryn Peterson led Utah with 16 points, while Lauri Markkanen scored 13 on three-of-14 shooting.
Utah was held scoreless for nearly six minutes during a 17–0 first-quarter run. An early drought like that leaves little room for error. Better ball security would give the Jazz more chances to establish their offense before San Antonio builds a cushion.
Our turnover projections put Utah at roughly 15 and San Antonio at about 12. The Jazz don’t need another 20-turnover night for possession losses to matter; even a smaller gap could make their scoring task harder against an opponent with Wembanyama protecting the basket.

Utah has lost four straight, but Saturday was its first game below 103 points this season. That makes the 90-point output a recent low rather than its usual scoring level. The Jazz’s case for a more competitive rematch starts with getting closer to the offense they showed before that loss.
The total depends on both offenses
The total is 231.5. Both teams have gone Under in four of six games this season, including their first meeting, while San Antonio’s latest game went Over and Utah’s last three stayed Under.
The Spurs’ scoring depth and favorable offensive matchup give them a way to push the scoring higher. Utah’s contribution is the counterweight: turnovers and another poor shooting night could leave the Jazz struggling to keep the combined scoring moving. Better shot-making would help them compete and change the total’s outlook at the same time.
San Antonio’s scoring options give it several ways to build a lead, but maintaining that cushion is the larger test at this spread. For Utah, better ball security would be a useful start; Markkanen and the rest of the offense still need to turn those extra opportunities into points. A shooting recovery would help the Jazz stay competitive and make both teams’ scoring matter more to the total.
