Vincent Trocheck’s return to Madison Square Garden gives Utah’s visit a personal storyline, but the betting question goes beyond the reunion. The Mammoth have won their first two games by a combined 10–1 score, and our projections give them a modest shooting-volume edge against a favored Rangers team. New York’s extra time between games makes this a useful early test of Utah’s strong start.
A reunion with a demanding turnaround
Trocheck is making his first Madison Square Garden return since the Rangers traded him to Utah, as NHL.com details in its report on the reunion. He joins Clayton Keller and Nick Schmaltz in the Mammoth’s forward group.
Utah’s opening wins came against Chicago, 6–0, and Columbus, 4–1. Saturday’s victory at Columbus leads straight into another road game Sunday. The Rangers last played Friday, beating Detroit 2–0 after a 5–1 win over Tampa Bay. Both teams have won consecutive games, but New York has had an additional day between them.
Why the moneyline deserves a closer look
DraftKings’ current moneyline has New York at -130 and Utah at +110. That’s a modest favorite’s price, leaving room to weigh the Mammoth’s strong opening results against the Rangers’ home ice and schedule advantage.
Our grades give Utah a B overall and a B for its attack, compared with a C+ overall and a C for New York’s attack. Both teams earn a B defensively. The clearest separation is in the attacking evaluations, which gives Utah’s competitive case more substance than two good results alone.

Our shot projections put Utah at roughly 28 shots and New York at 25. That modest gap points to shooting volume as one way the Mammoth could put pressure on the Rangers. It isn’t a large cushion, though, and sustaining that output on the second night of a road back-to-back is the important test.
The deciding balance
Utah’s stronger attacking grade and projected shot edge make a competitive case against New York’s modest favoritism. The Rangers’ consecutive wins and extra day between games are the counterweight. What matters most is whether the Mammoth can carry their attacking output into this quick turnaround: their early results are impressive, but maintaining that pressure here would make them more meaningful.
