Edmonton has scored four goals in three straight wins and allowed just one across those games. Now the Oilers face a New Jersey team fresh off a five-goal night in Vegas. The Devils are favored at home Tuesday, and their best chance to slow Edmonton’s run may start with making the Oilers defend more than they’ve had to lately.
How New Jersey can answer Edmonton’s quick starts
Connor McDavid needed just 50 seconds to score in Sunday’s 4–1 win over the Rangers, and Evan Bouchard added a goal and two assists. Our grades favor Edmonton’s attack, and that first shift is a reminder of how quickly the Oilers can put a team on its heels. AP recap of Edmonton’s win in New York.
DraftKings had New Jersey at −155 in its 8:32 a.m. ET snapshot. Jack Hughes and Arseny Gritsyuk scored twice each in Friday’s 5–2 win over Vegas. Hughes turned a neutral-zone takeaway into a goal, and Gritsyuk scored his second on his own rebound. Those are two ways the Devils can generate chances of their own, even if Edmonton gets another quick start. AP recap of New Jersey’s win in Vegas.

Why four from Edmonton may still leave 6.5 in play
All three Edmonton wins finished below Tuesday’s DraftKings total of 6.5. Tristan Jarry stopped all 42 shots he faced across the Calgary and Islanders shutouts. Connor Hellebuyck stopped 36 of 39 across two starts for New Jersey this season, including the win in Vegas. Both goalies were unconfirmed for Tuesday. If Hellebuyck starts, those two games offer an early look at how he could help the Devils hang in against the stronger attack.
New Jersey has scored at least four in four of its last six games, so it can put more pressure on the total than Edmonton’s last three opponents did. Our shot projections give the Devils a small edge, about 31 to 29. For the total, watch whether that extra volume leads to real scoring chances. Hellebuyck could also hold Edmonton below its recent scoring pace if he gets the start.
For the moneyline, keep an eye on the rebounds. If New Jersey can get to second chances like Gritsyuk’s in Vegas, a small edge in shots can matter. If Edmonton keeps those follow-ups scarce, the Devils may have to do more with their first chances to keep pace.
