Phillies vs. Mets Preview: Better Record, Tougher Price

The Phillies own the much better season record, but the Mets are favored at home. That tension makes this matchup more interesting than a quick look at the standings would suggest.

Philadelphia enters at 85-69, while New York is 70-84. DraftKings’ latest moneyline lists the Mets at -125 and the Phillies at +104, with the total at 8. The listed starting pitchers help explain why bettors might look past that 15-game gap.

Phillies vs. Mets game details

  • First pitch: Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 4:10 p.m. EDT
  • Venue: Citi Field in Queens, New York
  • Listed starters: Andrew Painter for Philadelphia and Christian Scott for New York
  • Weather: Around 70 degrees with intermittent clouds

The starting pitchers help frame the price

Scott brings a 4-5 record and 3.76 ERA into the game, while Painter is 3-9 with a 5.54 ERA. Those figures appeared in the AP’s recap of Friday night’s game, which New York won 6-3 behind Juan Soto’s three-run homer.

The listed matchup between Christian Scott and Andrew Painter gives the Mets a clear argument despite their weaker record. Scott has the better season-long run-prevention numbers and gets the game at home. Philadelphia’s path is to make that comparison less decisive by applying pressure with Kyle Schwarber, Trea Turner and Bryce Harper near the top of the expected order.

Painter faces an immediate challenge of his own. Soto collected three hits Friday, and New York can put Francisco Lindor and Soto in front of the rest of its expected lineup. If Painter prevents those two from creating another early deficit, Philadelphia’s deeper season résumé becomes more relevant.

Recent results haven’t separated them

Both clubs are 4-6 over their last 10 games. The Phillies mixed two double-digit scoring performances with several games in which their bats produced three runs or fewer. New York was similarly uneven, scoring no more than one run four times before Friday’s victory ended a five-game losing streak.

Our projections also show little separation in basic contact production, with each team near eight hits and between 12 and 13 total bases. That keeps the focus on the starting pitchers and on which lineup turns its opportunities into runs.

How the moneyline sets up

New York’s -125 price puts the emphasis on Scott and home field. Philadelphia’s +104 number offers plus money on the club with 15 more wins. Our two-star side rating fits a matchup in which the standings and the listed starters pull the analysis in different directions.

The total is 8, with the over at -108 and the under at -112. Recent scoring has swung sharply for both clubs, while the projected hit and total-base figures are nearly even, so the total doesn’t provide as clear a secondary lens as the moneyline.

The strongest case for New York starts with Scott’s run prevention and a top of the order that produced Friday night. The counterweight is substantial: Philadelphia has the stronger record and dangerous bats throughout its lineup. The matchup may ultimately turn on whether Scott can contain the Phillies’ top hitters while Painter keeps Lindor and Soto from creating another early hole.
