Florida’s biggest test as an 11.5-point favorite against South Carolina is on the ground. In its 45-17 loss at Missouri last Saturday, the Gators allowed Jamal Roberts to rush for 211 yards while Jadan Baugh managed just 13. Now they face a Gamecocks quarterback who ran for 147 yards that same Saturday. Florida has the stronger team evaluation in our analysis, but controlling the running game is the clearest test of whether it can turn that advantage into a convincing performance.
Sellers gives South Carolina a way into the game
LaNorris Sellers produced 226 passing yards and 147 rushing yards in South Carolina’s 35-34 overtime loss to Kentucky last Saturday. His 74-yard run helped set up a fourth-quarter touchdown, and he threw another touchdown in overtime. That combination gives the Gamecocks more than one way to threaten Florida, even when a possession doesn’t develop cleanly through the air.
The problem was finishing the job. South Carolina led Kentucky 17-0 and still lost, falling to 2-3. Sellers’ production makes the Gamecocks dangerous, but that result also showed how much their offense can accomplish without getting enough stops to secure a win.
Florida’s advantage comes with a real counterweight
Our grades favor Florida on both sides of the ball: an A- offense and an A defense, compared with South Carolina’s B+ offense and B defense. That confidence in Florida’s defense is especially interesting after Missouri piled up 560 yards against the Gators. There’s a substantial gap between our assessment of Florida for this matchup and what it delivered last Saturday.

Our rushing-yardage projections put Florida at roughly 185 yards and South Carolina at 145. Passing production is much closer, at about 230 yards for Florida and 225 for South Carolina. The larger projected separation is on the ground, making Florida’s ability to get its running game going especially relevant to this matchup.
For Florida, Baugh’s performance is worth watching closely. Missouri held him to 13 yards on 12 carries after he had scored 11 rushing touchdowns across the first four games. A return to productive rushing would give the Gators a stronger foundation than they had in that loss. South Carolina’s counterweight is Sellers, whose legs can keep its offense productive even if Florida limits other parts of the attack.
A favorite with something to prove
The DraftKings spread asks Florida to win by at least 12 points to cover, not merely bounce back with a victory. Our grades and rushing projections support its stronger overall position, while the Missouri breakdown and Sellers’ dual-threat production explain why that margin deserves scrutiny. Florida’s clearest route to a more convincing performance is to restore Baugh’s production and limit Sellers on the ground; improving only one side of that equation would leave South Carolina a meaningful way to stay competitive.
