Georgia is clearly the stronger team, but a 24.5-point spread asks a more interesting question than who wins. The Bulldogs own the better grades and a sizable projected yardage advantage, while Vanderbilt has covered seven of its last 10 games and recently stayed inside a double-digit line at Auburn. The real issue is whether the Commodores can play cleanly enough to keep Georgia from turning a mismatch on paper into an early runaway.
Georgia’s edge goes beyond the scoreboard
The Bulldogs enter at 4-0 with A+ grades from us for both offense and defense. Our team projections show a sizable yardage gap, with roughly 403 total yards for Georgia and 268 for Vanderbilt. Georgia also projects to have balance, producing about 223 yards through the air and 180 on the ground.
Georgia’s latest result showed how quickly that advantage can become overwhelming. In the Bulldogs’ 41-13 win over Oklahoma, three first-half takeaways helped create a 28-0 halftime lead. Oklahoma committed four turnovers even though Georgia finished with only a 306-296 edge in total yardage.
That distinction matters with a spread this large. Georgia doesn’t necessarily need to dominate every possession if its defense keeps creating short fields and sudden scoring opportunities. The counterpoint is that a runaway final score built around turnovers can be difficult to reproduce from one week to the next.
Vanderbilt needs steadier possessions
Vanderbilt’s path starts with avoiding the kind of damaging sequence that helped decide its 21-15 loss at Auburn. One Auburn touchdown followed a blocked punt, and the Commodores couldn’t overcome that swing despite gaining 311 yards. Quarterback Jared Curtis completed 22 of 33 passes for 199 yards.
Our projections are less optimistic about Vanderbilt’s production in this matchup, estimating about 157 passing yards and 111 rushing yards. That would leave little room for stalled drives, penalties or another special-teams mistake. The Commodores’ B+ offense and A- defense are solid, but Georgia holds the top grade on both sides of the ball.

What the spread demands
The latest spread makes Georgia a 24.5-point favorite. Both teams are 7-3 against the spread over their last 10 games, so that recent record doesn’t provide an easy reason to dismiss either side. Georgia is 9-1 outright over the same span, while Vanderbilt is 7-3.
Our one-star side rating points to limited separation at the current number. Georgia has the superior profile, but the market is already asking the Bulldogs to win by more than three touchdowns.
Final assessment
Georgia’s case rests on elite grades, a projected yardage advantage of roughly 135 yards and a defense capable of turning mistakes into immediate scoring chances. Vanderbilt’s counterweight is its recent ability to stay competitive against the number, including a cover at Auburn despite the blocked punt that produced a touchdown.
Possession quality matters most. If Georgia creates short fields and pushes Vanderbilt away from a balanced approach, the Bulldogs have the profile to separate quickly. If the Commodores protect the ball, avoid special-teams trouble and sustain drives, they can shorten the game and make such a large margin harder to build.
