The Commanders vs. Eagles preview starts with Philadelphia laying six points at home, but the matchup looks tighter in a few important places. Our projections give the Eagles an overall yardage edge while putting the two rushing attacks much closer together.
Washington and Philadelphia meet Sunday, September 13, at 4:25 p.m. EDT at Lincoln Financial Field. Both teams enter the 2026 season at 0-0. The latest DraftKings lines list the Eagles at -6 (-108), the Commanders at +6 (-112) and the total at 44.5, with the over at -105 and the under at -115.
What does Philadelphia’s yardage edge mean for the spread?
Our team projections put Philadelphia at about 328 total yards and Washington at roughly 306, a difference of just over 21 yards. Passing accounts for most of that gap: the Eagles project for around 194 yards through the air, compared with approximately 180 for the Commanders.
The rushing outlook is much closer. Philadelphia projects for about 133 yards on the ground, while Washington sits near 127. A productive running game could help the Commanders keep the game manageable. For Philadelphia, the task is to turn its broader offensive advantage and home field into enough separation to cover a spread that requires more than simply winning.
The teams split their final two meetings of the 2025 season. Philadelphia won 29-18 at Washington on December 20, and the Commanders answered with a 24-17 victory in Philadelphia on January 4. That’s useful rivalry context, though it doesn’t settle whether six points is the right number for Week 1.
The late-2025 results point in different directions
Across their last 10 games, Philadelphia went 5-5 straight up and 5-5 against the spread. Washington went 2-8 outright and 4-6 against the spread. The Eagles had the steadier finish, but neither side built an overwhelming record against the number.
The totals results offer a sharper contrast. Eight of Philadelphia’s last 10 games stayed under, while six of Washington’s nine games with a recorded total went over. With the current total at 44.5, this matchup brings together one late-season sample that regularly finished low and another that was more open.

Eagles injury watch
Philadelphia has ruled linebacker Jonathan Greenard out with a pectoral injury, while tight end Eli Stowers is questionable with a hamstring injury. Those are the two current Eagles designations supported by the fresh injury report available for this preview.
Where the matchup gets interesting
Philadelphia has home field and the higher projected offensive output, but the similar rushing estimates make a six-point margin worth examining carefully. The totals picture is less tidy, with the teams bringing contrasting late-2025 results into a new season.
