Auburn’s trip to Ole Miss puts its passing game under pressure in two different ways. The Tigers need to protect Byrum Brown after allowing six sacks against LSU, and their defense faces another demanding matchup through the air. Ole Miss is a 13.5-point favorite at DraftKings, with our projections showing its clearest production advantage in passing yards. Auburn’s ability to stay competitive starts with making those possessions less one-sided than they were last Saturday.
Auburn has seen both ends of the argument
The Tigers beat Georgia 27-24 on the road, then lost 38-17 at home to LSU. Brown ran for 115 yards against Georgia, but LSU held him to 21 rushing yards and sacked him six times. On the other side, Sam Leavitt threw for 387 yards as LSU scored on five of its six first-half possessions.
That sequence makes Auburn’s route back fairly concrete: keep Brown from spending the afternoon escaping pressure, and prevent another opponent from building an early lead through the air. The Georgia result shows the Tigers can compete away from home. The LSU loss shows how quickly the game can get away when neither part works.
Our projections put Auburn and Ole Miss at about 159 rushing yards apiece, while passing output separates them: roughly 213 yards for Auburn and 286 for the Rebels. The total-yardage outlook is about 372 for the Tigers and 445 for Ole Miss. That gives readers a specific matchup to watch rather than treating the favorite’s advantage as equally large in every area.
Ole Miss has an attack worth respecting
The Rebels fell 34-27 at Texas after fighting back from a 24-3 halftime deficit to tie the game in the fourth quarter. Trinidad Chambliss threw two touchdown passes to Horatio Fields during the comeback, while Kam Franklin’s fumble recovery in the end zone supplied a defensive touchdown. The recovery showed several ways Ole Miss could generate scoring, even though it couldn’t finish the comeback.
We grade the Rebels’ offense A against Auburn’s A- defense. That gives Ole Miss a strong attack to lean on, while leaving Auburn a defensive counterweight to its latest poor performance. Auburn’s B+ offense faces a B+ Ole Miss defense. For the spread, the important question is whether Auburn’s protection and defensive response can keep the Rebels from turning their projected passing advantage into a comfortable lead.

The total depends on how Auburn responds
The 57.5-point total is higher than the combined scoring in either of Auburn’s last two games, even though both went Over their own lower totals. Ole Miss has scored at least 27 points in each of its seven games this season, but its latest comeback also benefited from that defensive touchdown and Texas penalties.
Auburn’s defense offers a credible counterweight to the Rebels’ offensive strengths, while the Tigers’ six-sack afternoon raises a separate question about their own scoring contribution. The season totals records are fairly mixed: four Overs in seven Ole Miss games and four Unders in seven Auburn games. The useful test here is whether Auburn can sustain its own drives while making Ole Miss earn longer ones. If those improvements don’t arrive, the Rebels have a clear passing matchup to exploit.
