Winnipeg has scored 11 goals across two straight wins, a welcome change after eight consecutive losses. Now comes a more demanding check on that recovery: Tampa Bay has scored at least four goals in nine of its last ten games and won the teams’ first meeting 6-4. The Jets have found some offense. Keeping the Lightning from turning this rematch into another exchange of goals is a separate job.
The Jets’ response needs a defensive follow-through
Winnipeg followed a 5-4 overtime win at Montreal with a 6-2 victory over Vancouver. AP reported that Dawson Mercer had a goal and an assist, Mark Scheifele also contributed one of each, and Stuart Skinner made 24 saves. That was a much more comfortable result than the Montreal comeback.
The Jets’ two wins follow eight consecutive losses, seven of them with two goals or fewer. Their attack has produced a clear improvement in those last two games. The question is how much of it they can sustain against a stronger opponent.
Tampa Bay offers a sharper test than simply asking whether Winnipeg can score again. Sharpest Bets grades the Lightning A- on both offense and defense, against C- offense and C+ defense for the Jets. That team-level contrast adds to the challenge: Winnipeg needs to keep creating goals while facing an attack that has been much more consistent than its own.
Tampa Bay keeps finding four
The Lightning’s three-game winning streak has come with four goals in each game. The first two wins finished 4-2 against Detroit and 4-1 against Chicago; Saturday’s 4-3 overtime win at Minnesota required a comeback. AP reported that Tampa Bay trailed 3-1 in the third period before Jake Guentzel and Charle-Edouard D’Astous scored, with Nikita Kucherov delivering the overtime winner on a power play.
Tampa Bay now plays for the second consecutive day after that overtime finish, while Winnipeg last played Thursday. The Jets have the home setting and the longer gap between games to go with their renewed scoring.
Sunday morning’s DraftKings snapshot lists Tampa Bay at -148 on the moneyline and Winnipeg at +124. The Lightning’s stronger season record and sustained scoring help explain the favorite’s position. The counterweight is a Jets team whose attack has just produced its best two-game stretch in its last ten games, now playing at home.

The total depends on more than Winnipeg’s attack
The total is 6.5. Winnipeg’s last five games have all gone over their posted totals, including the first meeting with Tampa Bay. Those games came against past lines and tell different stories: the Jets scored six and five in their two wins, while an earlier 7-0 loss at Carolina reached the over without any Winnipeg offense at all.
The recent results make it especially useful to separate an improving attack from reliable goal prevention. Andrei Vasilevskiy and Skinner are the projected starters, with neither confirmed. Their last five appearances produced save percentages of .871 and .832, respectively. All were starts, with Skinner’s sample including outings of about 29 and 40 minutes.
There is a better recent result for each: Vasilevskiy allowed one goal against Chicago, and Skinner allowed two against Vancouver. Dennis Hildeby played Tampa Bay’s latest game in Minnesota. Those latest starts are encouraging, even though neither erases the rougher five-appearance sample.
Winnipeg’s next step is to pair its scoring revival with enough stops to avoid needing another rescue. Tampa Bay’s repeated four-goal nights make that the demanding part of this rematch. The Jets’ two wins give them something to build on; keeping the Lightning from setting the scoring pace would make the recovery more convincing.
