Toronto doesn’t need to look far for a reason to feel good about Friday’s matchup with Orlando. The Raptors beat the Magic 129-99 in the same building on Wednesday, with Scottie Barnes and RJ Barrett leading an attack that found plenty of help. The rematch asks a more demanding question than whether Toronto played well: how much of that 30-point separation should carry over when the Raptors are favored by 5.5?
Toronto had more than two answers
Barnes scored 28 points and Barrett added 25 in Wednesday’s win. Barrett also contributed nine rebounds and six assists, while Ja’Kobe Walter scored 14 and Jamal Shead supplied 13 points and seven assists off the bench. That supporting production made the result more substantial than a big night from one scorer.
The Raptors did it without Kawhi Leonard. NBA TV’s Chris Haynes reported Thursday that Leonard’s knee issue is expected to keep him out for at least three to four weeks. Walter started in his place Wednesday, giving Toronto a recent example of productive minutes from the group handling that absence.
Toronto is 3-1 both outright and against the spread this season. Its wins have come by 43 points against Chicago, 10 against Washington and 30 against Orlando. Those are convincing results, but the other game was a 117-94 loss at Minnesota. Four games have already shown both the Raptors’ ability to pull away and how different their offense can look from one night to the next.
Orlando’s response starts with its offense
The Magic are 1-3, with one cover in four games. Wednesday was their second game below 100 points this season, after a 115-93 loss to Minnesota. They have also scored 125 against Atlanta and won 111-102 at New York, so the early results don’t describe one consistent level of offensive production.
Tristan da Silva led Orlando with 20 points Wednesday, while Franz Wagner had 15 points and five assists. Those contributions give the Magic something to work with, but their overall 99-point showing left little room to absorb Toronto’s balanced scoring.
Our assessment offers a useful check on treating the first meeting as the automatic template. Both teams receive a B defensive grade, while Orlando’s offense gets a C- and Toronto’s a D. The Raptors’ record and Wednesday’s scoring make the stronger recent case; our offensive evaluation is much less enthusiastic. That tension is why repeating the result and repeating the margin are separate questions.
Our projections put rebounds at roughly 45 for Orlando and 44 for Toronto. That’s a fairly even outlook on the boards. For the Magic, keeping the boards competitive while producing more useful offense would help them stay within reach if Toronto strings together another scoring burst.

A blowout and a scoring outlook aren’t the same thing
The total is 226.5. Toronto’s 129 points Wednesday show the scoring upside, but Orlando’s difficulty producing at the other end is just as relevant to this number. The Raptors have gone under in three of their four games this season; the first Orlando meeting was the exception.
There is longer historical context, too: 54 of Toronto’s 88 games over the past year went under, returning 15.15 units on flat one-unit under bets. That spans more than the current roster’s four-game start and different posted totals. The immediate matchup question is whether Orlando can improve its scoring while Toronto maintains enough of Wednesday’s production against a defense we still rate positively.
Toronto’s best case rests on the breadth of its recent scoring, with Barnes and Barrett getting help rather than carrying everything. Orlando’s opportunity is to make this a more competitive offensive game while keeping the boards close. For the rematch, watch Toronto’s supporting scorers and Orlando’s ability to sustain an answer; those offer a better guide than expecting the first meeting’s margin to repeat.
