Oklahoma’s defense has been good enough to keep the Sooners competitive through an uneven start, but that unit faces its toughest assignment yet. Georgia can lean on a powerful ground game and a defense coming off a dominant performance, leaving one question at the center of this matchup: can Oklahoma’s offense do enough to prevent the Bulldogs from steadily pulling away?
Georgia brings the more complete performance
Georgia opened SEC play with a 45-17 win over Arkansas, controlling the game on the ground on both sides of the ball. The Bulldogs held Arkansas to 17 rushing yards, while quarterback Gunner Stockton ran for 97 yards and Chauncey Bowens scored three rushing touchdowns.
Oklahoma’s 14-6 win over New Mexico wasn’t nearly as comfortable. The Sooners limited the Lobos to 185 total yards and 69 on the ground, but quarterback John Mateer threw two interceptions as Oklahoma committed three first-half turnovers.
The broader results favor Georgia too. Across their last 10 games, the Bulldogs are 9-1 overall and 6-4 against the spread. Oklahoma is 7-3 overall and 5-5 against the spread over the same number of games. Those samples cross seasons, but they still show Georgia sustaining a steadier run of results.
The projected rushing gap shapes the matchup
Our projections put Georgia near 371 total yards, compared with roughly 302 for Oklahoma. The more revealing difference is on the ground, where the Bulldogs project for about 173 rushing yards and the Sooners for 88.
Oklahoma does have a modest projected advantage through the air, about 214 passing yards to Georgia’s 198. That gives the Sooners a possible counterweight if they protect the ball and avoid obvious passing situations. Still, going from six points against New Mexico to facing a Georgia defense that just erased Arkansas’ running game is a major step up.

What the spread is asking
DraftKings has Georgia favored by 13.5 points. Georgia’s strong start and home-field setting explain the sizable number, but the Bulldogs still have to create separation against an Oklahoma defense that has allowed only 23 points through three games.
The total sits at 43.5. Seven of Oklahoma’s last 10 games have finished under their closing totals, while Georgia’s corresponding sample is split evenly. Our one-star strength ratings for the spread and total reflect the central tension: Georgia owns the clearer overall advantages, but Oklahoma’s defense and uncertain offensive response leave meaningful room for variance.
Final assessment
Georgia has the stronger case entering the game, built on a substantial projected rushing advantage, cleaner recent play and a defense that just shut down an SEC opponent on the ground. Oklahoma’s counterweight is a defense that has held each of its first three opponents to 17 points or fewer, along with a projected passing edge that could keep the offense from becoming completely one-dimensional.
The factor that matters most is Oklahoma’s offensive efficiency. If the Sooners protect the ball and sustain enough drives to keep their defense fresh, they can make Georgia work for separation. If the turnovers and scoring problems from the New Mexico game travel with them, the Bulldogs’ balance gives them several ways to take control.
