Buffalo’s power play broke a third-period tie in Los Angeles. In Anaheim, Ottawa gave up four power-play goals after taking a 3–0 lead. When the Senators visit the Sabres on Wednesday, watch how much of the game Ottawa can keep at five-on-five.
Buffalo’s power play puts Ottawa’s discipline in focus
Tage Thompson scored twice in Saturday’s 3–2 win over the Kings. Jack Quinn opened the scoring on the power play and later set up Thompson’s winning one-timer with the man advantage, according to the Associated Press recap. A night later, Anaheim went 4-for-5 on the power play against Ottawa. Cutter Gauthier scored twice in 36 seconds early in the third to break a 3–3 tie and give the Ducks a two-goal lead, per the AP recap of that game.
DraftKings had Buffalo at −130 and Ottawa at +110 on the moneyline at 9:15 a.m. ET Wednesday. The Sabres have won three straight, but their own penalties helped Los Angeles climb out of a 2–0 hole. Ottawa scored three times in the first period in Anaheim and put five past San Jose the game before. If the Senators stay out of the box, they can spend more of the night making Buffalo defend at even strength.

What could push the game past 6.5 goals?
DraftKings priced the over at −122 and the under at +102 in that same snapshot. Buffalo’s three wins produced two, 13 and five combined goals, in that order. Colten Ellis, a possible starter for Buffalo, stopped all 23 shots he faced against San Jose, then gave up six on 35 shots against Anaheim. Buffalo’s starter was unconfirmed at the time of this preview.
If the penalties start piling up, watch whether the power plays can move the puck quickly enough to open up one-timers like Thompson’s winner. A couple of chances like that can take a close game to seven goals. Longer stretches at five-on-five give both teams fewer opportunities to create that kind of swing.
