Kraken vs. Panthers preview: Can Florida keep its scoring surge going?

Florida has won two straight behind back-to-back Brady Tkachuk hat tricks, but Seattle brings more than an underdog price to Saturday’s matchup. The Kraken won three straight before an overtime loss at Tampa Bay, and Joey Daccord’s recent work offers a counterweight to the Panthers’ scoring surge. The interesting question is whether Florida’s momentum justifies its favorite status against a Seattle team that’s been finding the net, too.

Tkachuk gives Florida a dangerous spark

Tkachuk scored all three Florida goals in Thursday’s 3-2 overtime win over Vancouver, following another natural hat trick in Tuesday’s 7-3 win at Columbus. Against Vancouver, he tied the game with 13 seconds left in regulation before delivering the overtime winner. That’s a substantial scoring burst, though Florida needed a late escape to turn its latest one into a victory.

DraftKings has the Panthers at -185, with Seattle at +154. At that price, Florida’s case needs more than a hot scorer. Our grades favor the Panthers overall, B to C, with the clearest separation on the defensive side: A- for Florida versus C for Seattle. The attacking grades are much closer—C for Florida and C- for Seattle—so our assessment gives Florida a stronger foundation without suggesting a huge gap between the teams’ scoring units.

Seattle has also shown it can respond. The Kraken beat Detroit, Washington and Philadelphia before falling 4-3 in overtime at Tampa Bay on Thursday. Jared McCann and Matty Beniers both scored in that loss, with Beniers tying it late in the third period. Seattle has scored at least three goals in each game of that four-game road stretch.

The goalie comparison complicates the 6.5 total

The recent goalie comparison gives Seattle another counterpoint to Florida’s stronger team defensive grade. Daccord has a .913 save percentage across his four recent appearances for Seattle this season, compared with Akira Schmid’s .876 across four appearances for Florida. Those are small samples, and Daccord’s results haven’t been uniformly smooth: he allowed five goals against Vegas before stopping 33 of 36 shots against Washington in his latest appearance.

At a posted total of 6.5, the scoring evidence pulls in different directions. Six of Seattle’s eight games this season have gone Over their respective totals, while five of Florida’s eight have gone Under. Historical flat one-unit Over bets on Seattle returned 3.91 units across that stretch; Under bets on Florida returned 1.67 units. Those results came at each game’s own line and price, rather than a uniform 6.5.

The longer view runs the other way: 48 of Florida’s 84 games over the past year went Over, returning 7.38 units on flat one-unit bets, while 46 of Seattle’s 86 went Under, returning 1.90 units. That reversal makes the recent eight-game patterns less persuasive as lasting team tendencies.

Our shot projections call for roughly 28 from Florida and 25 from Seattle, plus about three power-play opportunities apiece. That’s a modest shooting-volume advantage for the Panthers, not a wide separation. Tkachuk’s recent production and Schmid’s save percentage give the higher-scoring case substance; Florida’s defensive grade and Daccord’s recent results push back. At 6.5, Florida’s hot scorer is the clearest recent scoring catalyst, while the projected shooting volume offers less reason to expect a lopsided offensive matchup.

What matters most

Florida’s strongest case is its better defensive evaluation combined with Tkachuk’s scoring burst. Seattle’s answer is a productive road stretch and Daccord’s stronger recent save percentage. That makes Florida’s ability to limit the Kraken more important to assessing its favorite price than simply expecting another Tkachuk outburst. The same tension shapes the 6.5 total: Seattle has been scoring consistently, but the close shot projections and opposing goalie results make recent high-scoring games an incomplete guide.
