Green Bay just forced five Chicago turnovers in a comfortable win. Dallas offers a much different test: Dak Prescott threw for 316 yards in his last game, yet the Cowboys still managed only 16 points. That gap between moving the ball and putting points on the board is central to Sunday night’s matchup, where the Packers are 1.5-point favorites against an offense we rate highly.
Green Bay’s latest win needs some context
Jordan Love was excellent in Green Bay’s 31-7 win over Chicago on Sunday, completing 25 of 31 passes for 367 yards. Christian Watson caught touchdowns of 42 and 53 yards and finished with 143 receiving yards; Matthew Golden added 123. Those were substantial contributions from the passing game, not just points handed over by the defense.
Still, the five takeaways came against a Bears team using Tyson Bagent and Case Keenum at quarterback. Prescott presents a different challenge, a point the Packers themselves emphasized in NFL.com’s matchup reporting. Our grades capture that tension: we give Dallas’ offense an A with Prescott, slightly ahead of Green Bay’s A- with Love, while the Packers hold the stronger defensive evaluation, B to C.
Dallas has to get more from its yardage
The Cowboys’ 24-16 loss to Tampa Bay last Thursday showed how passing production can go to waste. Prescott threw two interceptions, and a Dallas kickoff fumble also led to a Buccaneers field goal. Meanwhile, Tampa Bay rushed for 241 yards. Dallas had problems both protecting its own scoring chances and keeping the opponent from creating them.
That makes Green Bay’s defensive advantage important, but our projections don’t suggest a large separation in offensive output. We project roughly 369 total yards for Dallas and 367 for Green Bay, including about 258 passing yards for the Cowboys and 267 for the Packers. Dallas also has the higher first-down projection, about 23 to 19. Comparable yardage leaves room for very different results depending on how cleanly each team handles its possessions.

What matters at a 53.5-point total
DraftKings’ total of 53.5 asks more of these attacks than simply showing they can move the ball. Dallas scored 37, 31 and 34 points in the three games before its Tampa Bay loss, and four of its five games this season have gone over their respective totals. Green Bay brings a counterweight in its recent results: three of its five games have stayed under, including each of its last two wins. Those five Packers games carried totals ranging from 38.5 to 46.5, all below Sunday’s line, so their under results came against lower scoring expectations.
The case for substantial scoring rests on two highly rated offenses, Green Bay’s recent downfield production and Dallas’ weaker defensive evaluation. The restraint comes from the Packers’ stronger defense and the Cowboys’ latest example of empty yardage. Our projections put both teams near 370 yards rather than showing one attack overwhelming the other. At this total, how well those possessions end—especially whether Dallas avoids another turnover-heavy outing—matters more than the teams’ offensive reputations alone.
The matchup to keep in focus
Green Bay’s narrow favorite status fits its stronger overall and defensive grades, but Dallas has enough offensive support to make this a demanding follow-up to the Chicago win. The clearest test is whether the Packers can limit Prescott without needing another five-takeaway afternoon. Dallas’ comparable yardage and higher first-down projection suggest it can sustain drives; protecting those possessions would give the Cowboys a better chance to keep the game close. For the scoring outlook, Green Bay’s explosive passing supplies a credible route to a big night, but its lower-scoring recent wins and Dallas’ latest mistakes make a clean offensive game far from automatic.
