Seattle’s 6-1 win over Calgary is hard to overlook, but our grades and shot projections give this rematch a more balanced profile. The Flames have scored just once in each of their first two games, while the Kraken followed their six-goal opener with a 3-1 loss at Edmonton. Calgary has a plausible route to putting more pressure on Seattle; turning that pressure into goals is the bigger challenge.
A big result, but a smaller gap in our grades
Our overall grades put both teams at C. Seattle has a slight offensive edge, D+ against Calgary’s D, while the Flames hold the better defensive grade, C+ to C. That’s a closer matchup profile than the first meeting’s five-goal gap suggests.
The teams’ opening results show why finishing deserves so much attention. Calgary lost 4-1 at Vancouver after the Seattle defeat, leaving it 0-2 with two goals scored. Seattle is 1-1, and its one-goal outing against Edmonton gives us little reason to treat the six-goal opener as an established scoring pattern.
Both teams also played on the road Saturday before Sunday’s game in Seattle. Calgary comes in from Vancouver, while the Kraken return from Edmonton. Neither side has an extra rest day to work with.
Calgary’s shot outlook gives Seattle something to handle
Our shot projections give Calgary about 28 shots on goal and Seattle about 26. That modest edge offers a concrete way for the Flames to make this rematch more competitive: put more pucks on net and give themselves more opportunities to score.
Volume is only part of the problem, though. Calgary’s two goals through two games make finishing the central concern. Seattle has already shown it can punish the Flames on the scoreboard, even if it couldn’t sustain that scoring pace in Edmonton.

What the moneyline asks of Seattle
DraftKings’ moneyline makes Seattle a -155 favorite, with Calgary at +130. The first meeting gives the Kraken a strong result to lean on, but backing them means paying a favorite’s price in a matchup where our overall grades are level. Calgary’s better defensive grade and modest projected shot advantage are counterweights worth considering.
Seattle’s strongest case is its demonstrated scoring advantage against this opponent. Calgary’s case for a tighter rematch rests on the more balanced grades and its projected edge in shots, with poor finishing the main obstacle. The deciding question is whether the Flames can turn that volume into goals: more pressure would help, but another one-goal effort would leave Seattle little to overcome.
